Day 10 | Keep Your Eyes On the Future

“When there is no prophetic vision, the people cast off restraint.”
 - Proverbs 29:18

Vision is your clear view of what you want to do or what you want to be in the future. It is not a mere dream or some wish that seems to energize you only for a moment. Vision isn’t like that. It is compelling, vivid and transformative. It stays with you and takes hold of your energy and passion. Like a time machine, vision transports you to the future and makes you see the version that you will be.

One of the main causes for a business to fail or for a career to crash and most especially, for a ministry to stagnate can be traced to the absence of a vision. The reason is because, for any enterprise to succeed in the long run, it needs a good set of “eyes” to see the direction where it is going. Without direction that vision provides, a business or a ministry is blind. It won’t see the hidden dangers lurking or the risks emerging in its path, nor it could see the promising future before it.

Vision also provides an incredible source for inspiration and motivation. One can easily notice that when visionaries move and speak – they do so with a great deal of excitement, passion, and energy. Their boldness and sense of confidence is unmistakable and even, contagious.

For men of faith, God is the giver of visions. He gives it to them you whose main drive is to advance God’s work here on earth (Nehemiah 2:12). God will not entrust a vision whose heart isn’t after God’s. A visionary has to be like David. Or like that of Nehemiah. So make sure that your heart is right with God and that your main motivation is to see simply God’s work flourish in our time. Once God sees your heart right and beating only for Him, then, you can expect Him to enable you to possess a vision (2 Chronicles 16:9).

So don’t work blind or unmotivated. Ask God to give you a vision. Study other successful executives and leaders pursue their vision. And once you receive one, pursue it with dogged tenacity. Don’t give up on it.
