December 27 | Consecration
“Consecrate for tomorrow God will do wonders among you.†- Joshua 3:5
In our increasingly image conscious generation dominated by edits and filters, depth and purity of character is often neglected and forgotten. Our generation today will spare no expense just to get the best photo angle, or create the best spin of their story for a like and a follower. But ironically, we struggle staying in an hour of meditation, Bible reading, or prayer. It is no surprise that many today live conflicted, distracted, and empty lives, despite their faith in God.
However, consecration addresses and resolves this dilemma of spiritual hollowness and bankruptcy. In consecration, we identify those imbedded patterns and practices in our lives that run contrary to God’s revealed will. According to God’s words, there are influences that “contaminate body and spirit†and “passions of the flesh†that war against our soul. We need to consecrate our lives from these so we can live holier and purer (2 Corinthians 7:1, 1 Peter 2:11).
But separating from what is sinful and unholy is just one side of consecration. The other side of it is adhering and pursuing whatever it is that God has deemed holy, righteous and just. True consecration is not asceticism. God is not calling us to be recluses or to live our lives like hermits in caves, just to avoid sin. This kind of approach to sanctification is unbiblical and absurd. Biblical spirituality, the one that God approves and the kind that He delights in, is being in the world but not of it (John 17:14).
There’s never been a better time to engage deeper in consecration than these days leading to a new year. Over the course of the year, we might have developed mental or emotional patterns, which are less than biblical or holy. Maybe, jealousy, envy or malice have become our way of relating to others. Perhaps, we have developed carnal habits or conduct that made us lose our sense of Gods’ presence. Or, we probably have maintained some relationships that opened us to compromise our spirituality. Whatever they maybe, consecrating now ourselves would put us back in the right track of God’s will and purpose.
The word of God requires consecration as a pre-requisite to success and breakthroughs. Consecration prepares you to step into the realm higher and better than what’s is ordinary, average and common. A consecrated life launches us to the level of the supernatural, the miraculous and the amazing!
