Meditations for a Meaningful Christmas

By Bishop Jonathan S. Ferriol

December 1  |  Fullness of Time

“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,” - Galatians 4:4

God is the creator and the controller of time. He is the one who gave us the concept of time.

Prophet Daniel speaks about God “changing the times and seasons.” (Daniel 2:21). Meanwhile, King David wrote in his beautiful song that “all the days ordained for me were written in your book.” (Psalm 139:16). And in his sermon to his captive Athenian audience, Apostle Paul declared that God had “marked out” to each country the “appointed times” for them. (Acts 17:26).

But God exists and moves in his own time – its called eternity. The Bible says, that “God has placed eternity in our hearts.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Goodness demands timing. Beauty is best experienced when it is cued perfectly. Whether it be in arts, science, politics or business, the right movement must always be performed with an incredible sense of timing. A good act missing its cue or timing will fail.

This is why timekeeping is one of humanity’s most passionate pursuit. Everywhere you look, there is always something that tells us of time and what we ought to do or accomplish in a given time. A good act needs always to be timed right.

In Christmas, God demonstrated this beautiful timeless reality! God did a supremely and ultimately good act at the most perfect time! God sent His only son, Christ Jesus, to save humanity from sin in the “fullness of time.” (Galatians 4:4). It was not rushed nor it was premature. God gave His perfect gift at the most perfect moment.

But missing God’s timing is one of our costliest mistakes we often make as His children (Luke 19:44). In our unwillingness to obey, we usually insist on following our own pace and timing; proudly assuming that we know better than the One who created time as well as controls it. Our mistake!

Yet, as God’s children in His true church, we now know better! We know that we are now at the end of the last days – the fourth watch of the night! This is God’s time to prepare the church to our glorious destiny! This is your time to shine brighter in your walk with the Lord, in your family, in your business, and in your endeavors! God has given you already His greatest gift – Jesus, our Savior! It’s your time now to lift Him up for the world to see! (2 Corinthians 6:2)
